“Don’t Invest Too Much, It’s Not Your Home”
I’ve heard this advice more than once.
“Why bother? How long are you going to stay here? It’s a waste of money.”
But you know what? It’s not a waste.
The Value of Waking Up in a Beautiful Space
For me, there’s value in waking up every morning in a space that feels beautiful and organized. It changes my mood completely when I start the day somewhere that feels good to live in.
Why should we only experience that sense of calm and joy when we’re on vacation in a hotel, or staying in a nice Airbnb abroad? Why not bring that feeling into our own homes, even if we’re renting?
Rethinking the Rented Space
I know a lot of people hesitate to invest in rented apartments. The common thinking is: It’s not permanent, so why spend money on it? But from my experience, it doesn’t take much to make a big difference.
I’m not saying you need to pour thousands into renovations, but with some smart organization and the right furniture—whether new or second-hand—you can truly transform your space.
In fact, even small investments can create noticeable change.
There are small investments – like vases or throw pillows, and there are big investments – like entryway console. It is all up to you.
Making a Space Feel Like Home
Rented spaces often end up with a random mix of furniture collected over the years—items that don’t reflect your current taste or lifestyle. But that doesn’t have to be the case. By being intentional with your choices, you can make a rented apartment feel just as welcoming and personal as a home you own.
I’ve written in previous posts about how to use colors and textures to create a more inviting space, and added my personal picks (and links) for my own rented home. If you’re curious, check out the Hot & Cold post for inspiration.
