My Early Love for Rearranging Spaces
My passion for rearranging spaces started when I was about fourteen. Back then, I would spend hours rearranging my room just for fun. It wasn’t a simple process; I treated it like a project. I’d grab a notebook and sketch out my room as a square. Then, I’d add smaller squares for the furniture—the bed, the desk, the shelves. I’d make several drafts, moving pieces around on paper until the layout felt perfect. Once I was satisfied, I would rearrange the actual furniture to match my drawings. I found pure enjoyment in it—something about creating new layouts excited me. Over the years, I did this in every room I lived in, and each time, it felt like I was refreshing my space and energy.
A New Blank Canvas
Now, I’ve moved into a new apartment, and it’s completely empty. The walls are plain white, and there’s no furniture to start with. It feels like the ultimate blank canvas, ready for me to design and make my own. While this is exciting, it also came with some challenges. I hadn’t planned to move, so I wasn’t prepared. The furniture I had was bought with my previous apartment in mind. Its colors and sizes fit that space perfectly, but now, I had to rethink everything. How could I add new pieces that would fit the new apartment while also creating a cohesive look? It was overwhelming at first, but slowly, I started to see the possibilities.
The Warmth of Beige
In redesigning my space, I realized that beige would be a key color. I know some people think beige is dull or overused, but I see it differently. For me, beige is the perfect backdrop—it’s calming, neutral, and provides room to experiment with other accents. It adds warmth to the room, which is important to me, especially since the apartment has gray flooring that can feel a bit cold. Beige softens that, creating a more inviting atmosphere. It also gives me mental peace. A neutral color like beige doesn’t overwhelm the senses. It creates balance and helps the space feel more grounded.
Designing with Familiar and New
I’m really excited to see how this space will evolve as I continue to work on it. I’m blending some of my familiar pieces with new furniture and decor that match the new vibe I’m going for. The process of creating something fresh, while still keeping parts of my old style, feels like an adventure. It’s an opportunity to rethink how I use my space and what I want it to feel like. If you had the chance to design a new space from scratch, how would you approach it? Would you find comfort in neutral tones, like I do, or would you go for something bolder? I can’t wait to see how this journey unfolds.
