My Journey Begins
I’m a single mom, raising my 6-year-old son. After losing my husband in a motorcycle accident in December 2020, we moved in with my mother-in-law. For three and a half years, that was our home. However, in January 2024, my son and I took a big step and moved into our own place.
Embracing the Art of Letting Go
Throughout this process, I’ve gradually learned to let go of many things—especially possessions. I used to love holding onto belongings, but now I see them differently. So, I started with small steps, like clearing out clothes I never wore, kitchen tools collecting dust, and old paperwork that no longer mattered.
Finding Calm and Creating Order
As I began to declutter, I realized that every item should have a purpose and bring joy. Now, everything in my home has a specific place. I organize things into boxes and baskets, neatly stored on shelves or in drawers. As a result, with less clutter, my ADHD feels more manageable, and I feel far less stressed.
Letting Go of His Belongings
At first, I thought I needed to keep a lot of my husband’s things to feel close to him. However, I soon understood that I only needed to hold onto what truly mattered. So, I let go of the rest, keeping only what felt meaningful.
Moving Forward into a New Home
Letting go of the apartment we shared was the hardest part of all. I had lived there for four and a half years, three of those without him. Moving into a new space, free from constant reminders, was overwhelming at first. I thought I was ready, but the first day turned out to be far more emotional than I expected. Gradually, though, I started to feel peace and freedom in this new space.
Discovering Strength and Gratitude
In the end, this journey has shown me that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible. I’m deeply grateful for the support of friends and family who have helped me along the way. And now, here I am—ready and excited for this new chapter ahead.
